Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçük sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtalanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lafıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok sayıda polipeptit zir birimi barındırır). Anayasa başkalık peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, sair amino asite daim, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtalanır. Polipeptid dokumasına zalimlan amino asitlerin her biri dokumaya peptid rabıtalarıyla rabıtalanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir kez çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine zalimlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, boydak amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin sair ucundaki boydak α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
